Lisa Wada named Central Middle School Teacher of the Year

Lisa Wada is the 2025-2026 Central Middle School Teacher of the Year!

Lisa joined Team Tulsa in 2016 and has taught at Central since 2021. At Central, she is the sixth and seventh grade science teacher, science department lead, and middle school academic bowl coach. We asked Lisa a few questions to learn more about her and her time in Tulsa Public Schools.

What led you to a career in education?

I've always wanted to be a teacher. In first grade, I used to pester my little brother by playing "school" and making him do work. Life had other plans, but eventually I was able to realize my dream. I started with Tulsa Public Schools for my second year of teaching, and I've been a team member ever since.

What is your favorite thing about your work?

I love igniting a passion for science in my students. There is nothing better than to have a student begin to wonder about the world around them. I get asked A LOT of questions, and it brings me so much joy!

What is one thing you are passionate about outside of teaching?

I read constantly. Literacy is definitely a passion because if you can read, you can do anything.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

My husband and I have a small farm where we have goats, chickens, and a donkey.
